Your own house in the country!
Renting a house is ideal for families and groups of friends, Northern Lights gazers and mountain hikers. Here the kids can romp around as they like. Holiday homes are an excellent starting point for adults interested in taking walking tours and drives in the local area. Since most of the holiday homes are in the countryside, there is a minimum of light pollution during the winter, which is when you see the Northern Lights!
What does a holiday home look like?
Many holiday homes in Northern Norway are in fact old farmhouses. When farm owners built a new, modern house, they would fix up the old farmhouse to be used for rentals. Some are vacated houses from the 1970s or 1980s which are now rented out, and others are purpose-built. The houses vary greatly, so be sure to take a close look at pictures and descriptions so that you pick a house that is right for you.
At some farms, you will be invited to take part in the operation of the farm, and you will be in close contact with the animals and get to taste farm cooking and help out with the daily chores. This alternative is particularly popular among families with children.
